My darling. The time until Lindau now belongs to dear good Mouse. Outside, the foothills of the Alps begin just after Kempten, and the snow covers them. No sun wants to penetrate the curtain of clouds. I send my sweetheart the most beautiful and best thoughts. I know how hard it is for this sweetheart sometimes; but we have to find our way through this life together; even if the difficulties are great, the external must also give way.
Yesterday it seemed to me that the thoughts I wrote down for you for tomorrow still needed to be added to. Perhaps you will receive these lines soon enough. Therefore, I still want to add a few things to the chapter 'Earth Education'.
You know that the Lunar Pitris, the beings who precede man by one stage, have to bring their existence on the moon to a stage that is analogous to the stage of human existence on earth. Let us now consider the middle of the earth's development. You know that man absorbs the impacts of Mars and Mercury and thus strives towards his “Jovian existence” as one strives towards an ideal. Of the three parts of the astral body – the sentient soul, the mind soul and the consciousness soul – man brings only the first, the sentient soul, from the moon; the mind soul comes from the impact of Mars, and the consciousness soul from Mercury. The consciousness soul can only be developed because the forces that will later reach full development on Jupiter are already casting their shadows, so to speak. The consequence of this casting of shadows is the unfolding of the consciousness soul, which thereby, as described in my book Theosophy, can become the bearer of the spirit self. Insofar as the human being develops manas today, he is already living into the Jupiter stage. For all beings belonging to the seven-part human evolution, the Jupiter stage is now followed by the Verus development. Just as man lives towards Jupiter, so the Lunar Pitris of the moon (the “twilight spirits”), when they have passed through their normal development, live towards their Venus existence. And the “fire spirits” are already there. They live there towards their existence on Vulcan.
If we wish to describe the present situation correctly, we must say that human beings live on the earth towards Jupiter; the Lunar Pitris live on Jupiter towards Venus, and the Fire Spirits live on Venus towards Vulcan. When a being has arrived at the level of Vulcan, it has become a creative being. During the evolution of man on earth, the “spirits of form” are now in this position. They are therefore the creators of earthly man. And to the extent that they are this, “Jehovah” is their representative. Since the middle of the evolution of the earth, man has had to deal with: 1. his creators, the spirits of form, who gave him his earthly form; 2. with the fire spirits, which gave his astral body the sensual affects; 3. with the Lunar Pitris, who gave this astral body earthly knowledge; and finally 4. with himself, who lives as “I” in the consciousness soul.
The intervention of the fire spirits occurs in the second half of the Lemurian period, then the work of the lunar Pitris is added, and in the fifth sub-race of the Atlantean period, man then begins to develop into an independent “I”. The incomplete Lunar Pitris now work differently in this order than the complete ones. The latter shape the astral body perfectly from the outside with the Mercury impact; the former, however, must first complete themselves with what is developing in the human being. So they are stuck in the human being with their own essence. This makes them the Luciferic principle.
The last correction of 'Lucifer' will come from Potsdam in a few days; send it to Basel or wherever you think I will be. Now I realize that I never gave you the money for Schorsch. So don't give it to him even now, if it's not appropriate.
Tell Mr. Kiem that he will receive what I promised in a few days. I am sending it to you. He won't need it for a while.

Mein Liebling. Die Zeit bis Lindau gehört nun der lieben guten Maus. Draußen beginnen nach Kempten eben die Vor-Alpenberge, und der Schnee lagert auf ihnen. Keine Sonne will durch den Wolkenvorhang hindurchdringen. Meinem Liebling sende ich die schönsten und besten Gedanken. Ich weiß, wie schwer es dieser Liebling manchmal hat; aber wir müssen uns gemeinsam durch dieses Leben hindurchfinden; auch das äußere muss sich geben, so groß auch die Schwierigkeiten sind.
Gestern schien es mir, als ob die Gedanken, die ich Dir für morgen aufschrieb, doch noch einer Ergänzung bedürftig wären. Vielleicht erhältst Du diese Zeilen noch früh genug. Deshalb will ich zu dem Kapitel «Erdbildung» doch noch einiges hinzufügen.
Du weißt, dass die Lunar-Pitris, also die Wesen, die dem Menschen um eine Stufe vorausgehen, auf dem Monde ihr Dasein bis zu einer Stufe zu bringen haben, die analog der Stufe des Menschendaseins auf der Erde ist. Nehmen wir nun einmal die Mitte der Erdentwickelung in Betracht. Es ist Dir bekannt, dass da der Mensch die Einschläge von Mars und Merkur aufnimmt, und seinem «Jupiterdasein» so zustrebt, wie man einem Ideal zustrebt. Von den drei Gliedern des Astralleibes: der Empfindungsseele, der Verstandesseele und Bewusstseinsseele bringt der Mensch nur das erste, die Empfindungsseele vom Monde mit; die Verstandesseele rührt vom Marseinschlag, die Verstandesseele [Bewusstseinsseele] vom Merkureinschlag her. Die Bewusstseinsseele kann nur dadurch entfaltet werden, dass die Kräfte, die später auf dem Jupiter zur vollen Entwickelung kommen werden, sozusagen ihren Schatten schon vorauswerfen. Die Folge dieses Schattenwerfens ist die Entfaltung der Bewusstseinsseele, die dadurch so, wie es in meiner «Theosophie» geschildert ist, erst zur Trägerin des «Geistselbst» werden kann. So weit der Mensch heute schon «Manas» entwickelt, lebt er sich schon in die Jupiterstufe hinein. Auf die Jupiterstufe folgt nun für alle Wesen, welche der siebengliedrigen Menschenevolution mit angehören, die Verusentwickelung. Genau so wie der Mensch dem Jupiter entgegenlebt, so leben die Lunar-Pitris des Mondes (die «Zwielichtgeister»), wenn sie ihre Normalentwickelung durchgemacht haben, dem Venusdasein entgegen. Und die «Feuergeister» sind bereits dort. Sie leben dort ihrem Vulkandasein entgegen.
Will man also die gegenwärtige Sachlage ganz richtig bezeichnen, so muss man sagen: der Mensch lebt auf der Erde dem Jupiter entgegen; die Lunar-Pitris leben auf dem Jupiter der Venus entgegen, und die Feuergeister leben auf der Venus dem Vulkan entgegen. Ist ein Wesen auf der Vulkanstufe selbst angelangt, so ist es zu einem schaffenden geworden. In dieser Lage sind nun während der Erdentwickelung des Menschen die «Geister der Form». Sie sind deshalb die Schöpfer des irdischen Menschen. Und insoferne sie dieses sind, ist «Jehova» ihr Repräsentant. So hat es seit der Mitte der Erdentwickelung der Mensch zu tun: 1. Mit seinen Schöpfern, den Geistern der Form, die ihm seine irdische Gestalt verliehen haben; 2. mit den Feuergeistern, welche seinem Astralleib die sinnlichen Affekte gaben; 3. mit den Lunar-Pitris, die eben diesem Astralleib die irdische Erkenntnis gegeben haben; und endlich 4. mit sich selbst, der als «Ich» in der Bewusstseinsseele lebt.
Das Eingreifen der Feuergeister tritt in der zweiten Hälfte der lemurischen Zeit ein, dann kommt hinzu das Wirken der LunarPitris, und in der 5. Unterrasse der atlantischen Zeit beginnt dann der Mensch sich zum selbständigen «Ich» zu entfalten. Die nicht vollendeten Lunar-Pitris wirken nun in dieser Reihenfolge anders als die vollendeten. Die letzteren prägen von außen den Astralkörper in Vollkommenheit mit dem Merkureinschlag; die ersteren aber müssen sich selbst erst noch vollenden mit dem, was sich am Menschen heranbildet. Sie stecken also mit ihrer eigenen Wesenheit im Menschen darinnen. Dadurch sind sie das luziferische Prinzip.
Von Potsdam wird in diesen Tagen die letzte Korrektur des «Lucifer» kommen; schicke mir sie sogleich etwa nach Basel, oder wo ich nach Deiner Berechnung sein werde. Nun wird mir klar, dass ich Dir ja das Geld für Schorsch gar nicht gegeben habe. Gib es ihm also auch jetzt noch nicht, wenn es nicht angeht.
Herrn Kiem sag, dass er das Versprochene in einigen Tagen erhält. Ich sende es an Dich. Er braucht es ja erst in einiger Zeit.
Nun noch allerschönstes an den guten Liebling, den ich in München als gesunde Maus zu treffen 2Am 17. Januar. hoffe.
