My dear Mouse,
I have just returned from Bern, where I was with Waller. The man I asked for information is the one who will also have the final say as the person in charge when it comes to the decision on whether something can be duty-free when it is imported. So we have to assume that the final decision will certainly be as the man, who was very kind, told me today. According to this, none of the furniture, not even the bookcases from the publishing house, can be exempt from duty. Yesterday I wrote that 60 francs would cover 100 kilograms of furniture. The man in Bern added to this otherwise correct information by stating that raw furniture costs 35 francs per 100 kilograms and simple furniture 45 francs per 100 kilograms. The publisher's furniture would certainly be considered as such raw furniture. This now provides a yardstick for how much, or whether anything at all, of the furniture should be transported here.
Waller wanted to claim that she had indeed received the items free of charge. The man said that this was possible shortly after the war, but not anymore. Back then, people were more lenient. Waller now wants me to write to you that the Basel shipping agent, who is sure to do the best job, is taking on the Berlin shipping business: Josef J. Leinkauf Aktiengesellschaft, Berlin NW7, Dorotheenstraße 77. We have nothing to do with this man other than to know that when we receive his name, he is the right one. If, for example, a somewhat cheaper price is offered in Berlin, you have to know that this only applies as far as Basel – that is how the Berlin hauliers calculate – whereas the Basel hauliers calculate the whole way to Dornach. On the whole, the Basel hauliers charge much less.
What you write in your letter that has just arrived [probably No. 164] is very, very dear to me. They are beautiful thoughts that take us back to the beginning of our work. Thank you very much for the letter.
I would love to be there; but it is just not possible; but, I would like to say again, what was discussed in The Hague will probably remain so.

Olga [Zibell] says that she has emptied the travel bags properly; the horsehair cushions and leather bag have also arrived safely.
Helene Lehmann 36(1886-1953), employed in the household of Marie v. Sivers, first in Berlin and from 1914 in Dornach, member since 1907, sister of Bertha Lehmann (Mrs. Reebstein from 1916), who worked in the secretariat. is still in bed; the influenza has passed; but now there is another problem: pressure on the nerves emanating from the cerebellum due to the fatty tissue above the heart; and I told her at once that she must fast every day until 11. Later, the fast must also be extended to the quality of the food. I hope she will be able to work in 2-3 weeks.
A telegram from Rihouet has just been delivered; 37Performance by the Dornach Eurythmy Group in Paris on November 23, 1923.
Simonne Rihouet (1892-1982), later Madame Coroze, has been a member in Paris since September 1913. She founded the Paris Eurythmy School and the journal Science spirituelle in 1921. I read: presentation successful, full house, send feelings of gratitude and devotion.

Meine liebe Maus,
eben komme ich nun von Bern zurück, wo ich mit Waller war. Der Mann, den ich um Auskunft bat, ist derjenige, der auch dann als Referent die Entscheidung hat, wenn es sich bei der Einfuhr darum handeln wird, ob irgend etwas zollfrei sein könne. Man muss also annehmen, dass ganz gewiss die letzte Entscheidung so ausfallen wird, wie der Mann, der übrigens sehr liebenswürdig war, mir heute gesagt hat. Darnach kann nun nichts von den Möbeln, auch nicht die Bücherregale des Verlages zollfrei sein. Ich schrieb gestern von 60 fr. für 100 Kilo der Möbel. Der Mann in Bern ergänzte diese im übrigen stimmende Angabe noch dadurch, dass rohe Möbeln 35, einfache 45 fr. pr. 100 Kilo kosten. Als solche rohe Möbeln würden nun ja gewiss die Möbel des Verlages angesehen. Das gibt nun einen Maßstab dafür, wieviel oder ob überhaupt etwas man von den Möbeln hieher befördern soll.
Waller wollte geltend machen, dass sie ja die Sachen frei bekommen habe. Der Mann sagte: das war kürzer nach dem Kriege, jetzt könne man das nicht mehr machen. Damals war man nachsichtiger. Waller möchte nun, dass ich Dir noch schriebe, dass der Basler Spediteur, der ganz sicher die Sache am besten macht, sich das Berliner Spediteurgeschäft: Firma Josef J. Leinkauf Aktiengesellschaft, Berlin NW7, Dorotheenstraße 77, engagiert. Mit diesem hat man nichts anderes zu tun als dass man weiß, wenn man ihn gemeldet erhält, er der rechte ist. Wenn etwa in Berlin ein etwas billigerer Preis angeboten wird, so musst Du wissen, dass dies bloß bis Basel ist — so rechnen die Berliner Spediteure — während der Basler das Ganze bis Dornach rechnet. Im Ganzen kommt man beim Basler eben viel billiger zu stehen.
Was Du in Deinem eben angekommenen Brief [wohl Nr. 164] schreibst ist mir sehr, sehr lieb. Es sind schöne Gedanken, die auf den Anfang unserer Arbeit zurückführen. Allerherzlichsten Dank für den Brief. |
Gerne wäre ich dort; aber es geht eben nicht; doch, möchte ich nochmals sagen, es bleibt wohl dabei, was in Haag besprochen worden ist.
